Nashik, Aug 29: A 45-year-old man died and his three children were injured after a speeding container truck hit the family while they were walking along the Nashik-Mumbai highway near the eighth mile area, police said on Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Bhagirath Devaram Made. His children — Mayur Bhagirath Made, 16, Shyam Bhagirath Made, 6, and Devyani Bhagirath Made, 8 — sustained injuries and are undergoing treatment at Nashik District Hospital.

According to preliminary information, Bhagirath Made was walking along the road with his three children when the speeding container truck struck them. All four suffered injuries in the collision.

The injured were immediately taken to Nashik District Hospital in a free ambulance operated by the Jagadguru Narendra Maharaj Sansthan. Despite efforts to provide timely medical assistance, doctors declared Bhagirath Made dead after examination.

Police reached the spot soon after the accident and took the container truck driver into custody. Authorities are investigating the circumstances leading to the crash and are examining whether negligence or any other factor contributed to the accident.

The incident has once again raised concerns over pedestrian safety on the busy Nashik-Mumbai Highway, where heavy traffic moves throughout the day.

Police have urged motorists to control their speed and exercise caution, particularly in areas frequented by pedestrians.

Meanwhile, people present at the spot called for increased police patrolling along the highway to prevent such accidents.
