New Delhi, Nov 7: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday extended Diwali greetings to the people of the country, saying the festival of lights symbolises the collective resolve to fight darkness, and announced that he would once again celebrate the occasion with defence personnel.

In a video message shared on social media titled 'Have a great Diwali', the Prime Minister greeted citizens and said he celebrated the festival with great enthusiasm every year and would continue the tradition this time as well.

"On the occasion of Diwali, the entire country is illuminated. The festival of lights symbolises our pledge against darkness," Modi said.

He wished happiness, wellbeing and prosperity for everyone and said he would, as in previous years, spend Diwali with the country's brave defence personnel.

"May this festival bring happiness, wellbeing and prosperity for all. Just like you all, I also celebrate this festival with enthusiasm. Like every year, I will again be celebrating Diwali with our brave defence personnel. Once again, greetings to all of you on the occasion of Diwali," he said.

Earlier, Modi met Vice-President C P Radhakrishnan at Uprashtrapati Bhawan and exchanged Diwali greetings.

The Vice-President's office shared details of the meeting on X, stating that Radhakrishnan had warmly received the Prime Minister and exchanged Deepawali greetings with him.

Meanwhile, Vice-President Radhakrishnan arrived in Ayodhya on Saturday to participate in Deepotsav 2026, an official said.

During his visit, he is scheduled to offer prayers at the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple and participate in the symbolic coronation ceremony of Lord Ram. He will also felicitate revered saints on the occasion, according to an official statement.

The 2026 edition of Ayodhya Deepotsav marks the 10th anniversary of the grand festival of lights and is being organised ahead of Diwali on Sunday.

Organisers are targeting the illumination of more than 30 to 33 lakh earthen lamps across 56 ghats, including the main venue at Ram Ki Paidi and along the banks of the Saryu river.
