Canacona, Sep 9: Rural women from Canacona, Morpilla and Balli, who travel to Margao to sell vegetables, continue to wait for a permanent space to market their produce.

Mayavati Gaonkar said the women had repeatedly sought a proper place to sell their vegetables, while Lilavati Gaonkar said promises made by the authorities concerned had remained unfulfilled.

"Sangeeta Velip said the women are only seeking a basic facility to sell their products with dignity."

Around 20-25 women vendors bring vegetables to Margao every day to meet their household expenses. Their produce also provides consumers with access to locally grown organic vegetables.

With Ganesh Chaturthi approaching, the vendors have been bringing vegetables traditionally used during the festival, reflecting farming practices passed down through generations.

The women have urged the authorities to identify a suitable site for them, particularly during the festive season when demand for such produce increases.

For these women, the daily journey to Margao is a decades-old livelihood that they say deserves recognition, dignity and a permanent place in the city.
