Vasco, Sep 10: The Mormugao administration has decided to ban DJ music during Ganesh Visarjan processions across the taluka, allowing traditional Dindi processions accompanied by conventional musical instruments as Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations approach.
The decision was taken during a joint meeting convened by the Mormugao Deputy Collector along with Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar on Wednesday to review preparations for the upcoming festival. Officials from the Police Department, Mormugao Municipal Council and other concerned departments attended the meeting.
The Deputy Collector directed organisers not to use DJ music systems during Ganesh immersion processions and instructed them to follow the traditional format of Dindi processions, with musical instruments traditionally associated with the festival being permitted.
The administration said the move aims to ensure disciplined and peaceful celebrations, maintain public safety and prevent inconvenience to residents and road users during immersion processions.
The meeting also discussed the registration of Sarvajanik Ganesh pandals in Mormugao taluka. Officials said around 40 Sarvajanik Ganesh pandals operate across the taluka, but only around 16 have been officially registered so far. The administration has therefore urged all Sarvajanik Ganesh mandals and organisers to complete the registration process.
The registration is expected to help authorities maintain an accurate record of public celebrations and ensure better coordination of security, traffic and other arrangements during the festival.
Safety measures for Ganesh immersion were also discussed. Devotees and organisers have been urged to cooperate with Drishti Marine life-saving personnel deployed at immersion points and strictly follow their instructions.
The administration has also appealed to citizens to exercise extreme caution while bursting and igniting fireworks. Organisers and devotees have been advised to handle fireworks responsibly to prevent accidents and injuries.
With thousands of devotees expected to participate in Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations and immersion processions across Mormugao, authorities have called for collective cooperation to ensure that the festival is celebrated with devotion, discipline and safety.
