Panaji, Sep 14: A 21-year-old youth from Mysuru, Karnataka, succumbed to injuries after a speeding bus knocked down the scooter he was riding on as a pillion near Merces circle on NH 748 on Friday evening.
The deceased has been identified as Chandu Laxman (21). The scooter rider, Kiran (24), also hailing from Mysuru, sustained injuries in the mishap.

According to police sources, the bus was proceeding towards Panaji from Old Goa when the driver, identified as Rupesh Gaonkar (39), a resident of Honda in Sattari, allegedly drove in a rash and negligent manner. Upon reaching near Merces circle, the bus rammed into the scooter from behind, causing both riders to fall onto the road with severe injuries.
Both injured persons were immediately rushed to the Goa Medical College (GMC) and Hospital in Bambolim for medical attention. However, Laxman breathed his last while undergoing treatment in the casualty ward.
Old Goa police have registered a case against the bus driver, Rupesh Gaonkar, under relevant sections for rash and negligent driving endangering human life.
Further investigation into the case is underway.
