Ponda, Sep 15: Ponda Municipal Council workers worked late into the night to clean the entire market area, restoring the busy commercial space to a clean, orderly and hygienic condition.

The sanitation workers undertook the cleaning operation after the market activities had wound down, allowing them to clear waste and accumulated dirt from the premises without disrupting traders and visitors.

The entire market area was cleaned and the waste generated in the premises was removed, giving the commercial area a cleaner and more organised appearance. The late-night operation also helped ensure that the market was ready for regular activities the following day.

The cleanliness drive comes at a time when Ponda's market has been witnessing increased activity during the festive season. More than 100 vendors from villages across Ponda taluka recently participated in the traditional Chavticho bazaar, selling naturally sourced items collected from forests, agricultural fields and traditional homesteads.

Maintaining cleanliness in busy market areas remains an important civic responsibility, particularly during periods of increased footfall and commercial activity. Goa's recent urban cleanliness initiatives have also placed emphasis on sanitation and maintaining clean public spaces, with Ponda recognised in the state's Swachhata Hi Seva-related awards as the Best Clean Green Utsav among urban local bodies.

The overnight efforts by the Ponda municipal workers have helped restore cleanliness across the market area and provide traders and visitors with a more hygienic environment.
