New Delhi, Sep 17: German semiconductor major Infineon Technologies has described India as a market of “tremendous importance”, saying the country’s semiconductor ecosystem is entering a new phase driven by economic growth, industrial ambitions and expanding technological capabilities.

Speaking at the inaugural session of SEMICON India 2026 on Thursday, Infineon CEO Jochen Hanebeck said the company’s confidence in India had never been stronger as the country strengthens its position in the global semiconductor value chain.

“For Infineon, India is a market of tremendous importance,” Hanebeck said, noting that the company currently works with more than 1,200 customers in India, ranging from startups to some of the country’s largest companies.

Hanebeck said the rapid pace of technological development in India was particularly encouraging, with domestic companies developing solutions for the Indian market while increasingly contributing to global innovation.

Infineon, which has operated in India for more than 25 years, has expanded its workforce in the country by 28 per cent over the past year, taking its employee strength to more than 2,800 across Ahmedabad, Bengaluru and Hyderabad.

The company has also expanded its Global Capability Centre in Ahmedabad, strengthened its research and development operations in Hyderabad and is setting up a new state-of-the-art campus in Bengaluru.

Hanebeck emphasised the importance of collaboration between industry, government and academia in building a sustainable semiconductor ecosystem.

As part of its efforts to strengthen the talent pipeline, Infineon has partnered with the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) to establish a Centre of Excellence aimed at equipping the next generation of engineers with industry-ready skills.
