Raaka team distances itself from Avatar comparison; 2028 delay possible

Hyderabad, Sep 20: The upcoming film Raaka, starring Allu Arjun and Deepika Padukone and directed by Atlee, has sparked discussion after filmmaker Cibi Chakaravarthi compared its visuals to those of Avatar. However, Allu Arjun’s manager Sarath Chandra Naidu clarified that the film’s core team had not made such a comparison.

The discussion began after Cibi praised the visuals of Atlee’s upcoming project at the audio launch of Vijay Sethupathi’s Baththa in Chennai. He said he had seen visuals from the film and felt that even Avatar did not have visuals of that scale. He added that audiences would understand his comments soon.

Cibi also praised Atlee’s ambitions for Indian cinema, expressing confidence that the filmmaker would help take Indian films to a global audience, much as director S S Rajamouli has done.

Following the remarks, a social media user urged the Raaka team to be cautious about its marketing, stating that comparisons with iconic films could create unnecessary expectations ahead of its release.

Responding to the post, Sarath Chandra Naidu said the core team had never compared Raaka with any path-breaking or genre-defining film. He added that the phrase “Global Triumph” used by the team had a specific reason, which would be revealed soon, and said the makers were confident that the film’s content would speak for itself.

Raaka is described as a science-fiction action thriller and is reportedly expected to feature Allu Arjun in multiple roles. Rashmika Mandanna, Mrunal Thakur, Janhvi Kapoor, Ramya Krishnan, Jim Sarbh and Yogi Babu are also part of the cast.

The film is expected to offer its first glimpse on Allu Arjun’s birthday. Reports have also suggested that Hollywood actor Will Smith has been approached for a negative role.

Meanwhile, speculation has emerged that the film could be delayed until 2028. Sarath Chandra Naidu said a delay was possible, but added that the production team had not confirmed it.
