Huntsville, Sep 24: Texas executed Ker’Sean Ramey, 41, on Wednesday for his role in the 2005 shooting deaths of three people during an attempted robbery at a rural home.
Ramey was pronounced dead at 6:34 p.m. CDT following a lethal injection at the state penitentiary in Huntsville. He was the sixth person executed in Texas this year, with three more executions scheduled over the next two months.
Before the execution, Ramey thanked his friends, family and fellow death row inmates. He praised God and expressed gratitude to inmates he said had helped him understand what it meant to be a man.
A jury had convicted Ramey of capital murder and sentenced him to death for the August 2005 killings of Samuel Roberts, 24, Tiffani Peacock, 18, and Celso Lopez, 38, at the home they shared in Edna, about 100 miles (160 km) southwest of Houston.
According to court records, Ramey and LeJames Norman believed cocaine was kept at the house and entered it intending to steal the drugs. After finding no cocaine, the men fatally shot the three residents, who lived across the street from Norman.
Norman was executed at the same Huntsville prison on September 16. He had pleaded guilty to capital murder and was sentenced to death in December 2008.
Hours before Ramey’s execution, the US Supreme Court rejected his final appeal. His attorneys had argued that jurors were not told that he had suffered physical abuse as a child and had grown up in poverty. Prosecutors opposed the appeal, calling it meritless and pointing to what they described as an escalating pattern of criminal behaviour.
Norman, who was arrested about five months after the killings while attempting to re-enter the United States from Mexico, testified at Ramey’s 2007 trial that both men had shot the victims. Ramey’s attorneys instead blamed Norman for the shootings.
Ramey’s former girlfriend also testified that she was with him when he threw two handguns into a lake after the killings and later described his involvement in detail.
Including Ramey’s execution, 28 inmates have been executed across several US states in 2026. Florida has carried out 15 executions so far this year, the highest number among US states.
