Bhubaneswar, Oct 2: Manipal Hospital Bhubaneswar observed World Heart Day with a heart health awareness programme focusing on early screening, timely diagnosis and preventive lifestyle measures, bringing together around 100 participants from community organisations and neighbouring areas.

Members of the Rotary Club, Inner Wheel Radiant, Khandagiri Welfare Society, Satyasai Enclave and surrounding communities attended the programme and interacted with the hospital’s Cardiac Sciences team on recognising warning signs, monitoring cardiovascular risk factors and adopting healthier daily habits. The programme reinforced this year’s World Heart Day message, “Don’t Miss a Beat.”

Dr Saktimaya Mohapatra, Cluster Director, Manipal Hospital Bhubaneswar, said heart health should be prioritised at every stage of life. “Regular health checks and simple lifestyle changes can help identify risks early and support timely care,” he said.

Dr J K Padhi, Senior Consultant and Director, Interventional Cardiology, highlighted the importance of preventive screening. “Regular screening can help identify cardiovascular risk factors before they become serious. People should be proactive about checking their blood pressure, sugar and cholesterol levels,” he said.

The programme also stressed the importance of recognising symptoms and seeking timely medical attention. Dr Jitendra Nath Patnaik, Senior Consultant, CTVS, said, “Timely diagnosis and treatment can make a significant difference in cardiac care. Recognising warning signs and seeking medical attention without delay is important.”

Dr Mahesh Agrawala, Consultant, Interventional Cardiology, noted that cardiovascular conditions may not always have obvious symptoms, making regular monitoring important.

Dr Pradeep Kumar Dash, Consultant, Interventional Cardiology, emphasised physical activity, balanced nutrition and regular health monitoring as key preventive measures, while Dr Dibya Ranjan Behera, Consultant, Interventional Cardiology, stressed the importance of managing risk factors through everyday habits.

Dr Biswajeet Mohapatra, Consultant, CTVS, added that individuals with risk factors or a family history of heart disease should discuss appropriate screening with their doctors.

The Rotary Club Bhubaneswar Eco also felicitated the Cardiac Sciences and Anaesthesia teams, including Dr Vivek Chowdhry and Dr Braja Mohan Rath, for their contribution to cardiac care.

The programme concluded with a health awareness talk, interactive question-and-answer session and media interaction. Discussions covered hypertension, diabetes, high cholesterol, obesity, smoking and family history as key cardiovascular risk factors.
