Mangaluru, Oct 2: Carmel Central School, Kotekar, observed Gandhi Jayanti on 2nd October 2026 with reverence and solemnity, commemorating the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and remembering his remarkable contribution to the nation. The occasion provided an opportunity to pause and reflect upon the values of truth, non-violence, peace, simplicity and selfless service that continue to inspire generations.

The celebration began with a prayer service, seeking God’s blessings and guidance. The prayerful atmosphere created a sense of peace and reflection as everyone came together to remember Gandhiji and the ideals that shaped his life. This was followed by the offering of flowers as a mark of respect and remembrance, symbolising gratitude for his life and service to the nation.

The principal Sr Pramila D Souza AC and the vice principal Sr Anitha D Souza AC graced the occasion with their presence. Their presence added significance and solemnity to the celebration.

As part of the celebration, a Shramadan activity was organised to promote the values of service, cleanliness, responsibility and the dignity of labour. The students actively participated in the Shramadan, enthusiastically contributing to the cleanliness of the school surroundings. Their wholehearted participation reflected the spirit of collective responsibility and service, making the activity a meaningful tribute to Gandhiji’s ideals.

A thoughtful reflection on the life and teachings of Mahatma Gandhi was then presented. It highlighted the importance of practising truthfulness, compassion, simplicity, discipline and peaceful coexistence in our everyday lives. The reflection also reminded everyone that meaningful change begins with our own thoughts, words and actions.

The teachers actively participated in the celebration, adding warmth and dignity to the occasion. Their participation reflected a shared commitment to remembering and upholding the values that Gandhiji advocated throughout his life.

The programme concluded with a melodious song, which created a serene and inspiring atmosphere and brought the celebration to a graceful close. The observance of Gandhi Jayanti was a meaningful occasion that encouraged everyone to carry forward the spirit of truth, peace, non-violence, service and dignity of labour in both personal and professional life.
