Mangaluru, Oct 2: The Gandhi Jayanthi and Lal Bahadur Shastri Jayanti celebration was held at Lourdes Central School on October 2. The programme was graced by the chief guest, Naik Subedar N B Patil, Fr Stany Pereira, manager, Fr Johnson L Sequeira, principal, and Anita Thomas, vice principal.
The event was organised by grade IX B and the NCC Cadets with the aim of commemorating the birth anniversaries of two great national leaders and inspiring students to uphold the values of truth, non-violence, simplicity, courage and service to the nation.




















The programme commenced with the escort of dignitaries by the school band and the introduction of the chief guest by vice principal. This was followed by a prayer service led by the grade VIII NCC cadets. Shreshta Shree of grade IX B delivered the welcome address, followed by an insightful presentation on the significance of Gandhi Jayanthi by Thakshak and Gowthami of grade IX B. Rhea of grade X B led the gathering in the pledge.
A floral tribute was offered to Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri by the dignitaries. The chief guest, Naik Subedar N B Patil, addressed the gathering and spoke on the values practised and professed by both the great leaders, namely truth, non-violence, simplicity and discipline. He also applauded the Lourdites for being disciplined and respectful towards their parents and elders.
The NCC cadets presented a meaningful skit highlighting the life and contributions of Lal Bahadur Shastri, including his inspiring call, 'Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan'. This was followed by a song on peace and harmony presented by the grade VIII NCC cadets. Fr Stany Pereira, manager, addressed the gathering and enlightened everyone on the different versions of truth and insisted upon the 'see, reflect and react' method to live a better life.
The programme concluded with the vote of thanks delivered by Sinchana C of grade X C and was impactfully compared by Pranav Shenoy and Shinal Dechamma. The programme concluded with the national anthem.
