Mumbai, Oct 3: A 75-year-old man who had come to Shivaji Park to attend a protest organised by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) died after suffering a heart attack on Friday evening.

The deceased has been identified as Gopalkrishna Subbayya Pillai, a resident of Dosti West County in Thane. According to information available, Pillai had arrived at Shivaji Park at around 4.30 pm to watch the protest organised by the CJP, which was demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

At around 5 pm, Pillai complained of chest pain. With the help of his friends and police personnel present at the spot, he was taken to Sushrusha Hospital in Shivaji Park for medical treatment.

However, he died during treatment after suffering a heart attack. His sudden death has left his family and others in the area shocked.

The protest, led by CJP founder Abhijit Dipke, witnessed the participation of a large number of people. Film actor Naseeruddin Shah, music composer Vishal Bhardwaj and several other prominent personalities reportedly appeared on the stage and expressed their support for the protest.

Meanwhile, Dipke thanked the Mumbai Police for their cooperation during the protest. While praising the conduct of the Mumbai Police, he also criticised the Delhi Police.

Addressing the Delhi Police, Dipke said they should learn from the Mumbai Police. He claimed that the Mumbai Police had been instructed from above to arrest the protesters but did not do so. Instead, he said, the police offered them tea and asked them to leave.

Dipke also quoted Mumbai Police personnel as telling the protesters, “Sir, what you are doing is absolutely right.”
