Mangalore - Manipal Volvo Price Hike Angers Passengers

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore

Mangalore, Apr 2: A 10-rupee increase in Mangalore - Manipal KSRTC Volvo bus is the new gift by KSRTC to the commuters of this region. A sudden price rise without prior notice has taken the people aback.

It cost Rs 70 per ticket until March 31, but effective from April 1 passengers have to shell out an extra Rs 10 for Mangalore - Manipal bus, and Rs 5 more for Mangalore - Udupi.

The sudden action has raised several questions among the people. This service has been considered one of the best for its comfort and quick service for people who travel in this route.

"This is nothing but government's plan to stop the bus service in this region, and make way for cent percent introduction of private operators," said angered passengers who have been making use of this service since its inception more than a year back.

"This is a private bus operators' lobby, our home minister is slowly bowing down to their pressure. This KSRTC service has been a great boon to the people of this region, and I am one of the regular passengers using this service. I can see the bus running to full capacity every day. What is the need for increasing the price all of sudden? This is nothing but an attempt to put a fullstop to this service. When the price is raised by such a big margin, people will of course shift from KSRTC to private buses," says another woman passengers who uses this service from Udupi to Mangalore.

"When private express buses charge only Rs 44 from Mangalore to Udupi, why should we pay double in KSRTC? In private buses you can even pay Rs 23 and travel between Mangalore - Udupi if you are eligible for concerssion rate," a regular traveller who gets concession told Daijiworld.

"Just imagine, private bus operators are first to raise the price every time, but now KSRTC has done it, while private buses have not announced any increase in the price. This proves that something is fishy. No wonder if KSRTC withdraws the buses soon, claiming 'poor response' from passenegers,"  he said.

Just an attempt to stop the service due to private lobby. Private operators are ruling the total transport service which includes state & central govt leaders for killing people by compeitition. People has to suffer by voting them to lead us.. what can we expect more than this from our elected representatives????

It was inevitable for KSRTC to hike the fare. The blame point should go to Congress lead UPA Govt at the center for hiking the fuel price at exorbitant level from last 3 years.

It is ridiculous to see people blaming STATE GOVT.

Guys, not only KSRTC fare, all your commodities price have gone up since last 3 years due to increase in transportation cost. Think about it. Understand the reality before commenting.

Though there is hike in International fuel price, the state governments have taken initiative to keep the Public transport in Delhi & Maharashthra in control. But the state government in karnataka has increased like anything. The Volvo daily pass in Delhi & Mumbai is 50 rupees. Whereas in Bangalore it is 90 rupees.

If we are travelling ahead one stop extra in normal BMTC in Bangalore we have to pay 3 rupees extra. The minimum rate is 4 rupees in BMTC. After 4 rupees it suddenly jumps to 7 rupees in BMTC.
Conductors say that there is no 5 rupees & 6 rupees ticket at all.

One & half year ago BMTC Bangalore had 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 etc tickets. But now it has been eradicated.

Even normal Bus Pass is much less in other states while compared to the karnataka. Before One & half year it was under control. But now it is not.

Daily BMTC Pass is increased from 32 rupees to 45 rupees within two years. Therefore in delhi & Mumbai you can travel in Volvo with almost ordinary BMTC rate of Bangalore.

I agree that there is a price for comfort, however the question here is how much? they have increased the fare without any intimation and there is no justification on the fare hike. There is no pass for regular commuters as they have in Bangalore & mysore. few years back KSRTC started a Mini bus service which eventually died. This is going to be the same as many will stop going and finally they give a reson saying that it is running under loss. From one side Ashok promises many things and other side they do this so that they'll loose passengers and private buses get the benefit.

There is a price for a price. If you need to travel comfortably in a cool and pleasant ambiance, and that too faster than other buses, you need to pay little bit more, considering the increased rate of inflation.Choice is yours, pay less and travel on express buses in humid or add few rupees and enjoy the Airavat ride.

Why most are interested with rise in price of Volvo travelling than increase in price of Fuel by Central Govt. Perhaps most of them are interested in blaming State Govt. than Central Govt.

Instead of slapping the Centre, these fools are interested with State. Congress perhaps is doubtfull of gaining power in Centre in election after an year, & so busy with kickbacks from all sources. & some friends here are admiring the beauty of Centre, & firing at the State...

Now he want bow down to private bus operator mafia and take favours from them.

He does not bother if these expensive buses run empty and slowly discontinued giving reason of loss making operation to KSRTC.

No one forces people to take Volvo buses. We must shell out more for luxuriuos life and people are not bothered about money now a days. One can see most of the imported cars including the mighty jaguar on udupi roads. Volvo buses are for those who can affrod to pay more. For others like me, ofcourse there are plenty of private 'dumpoley-pira poley' private buses. I have been a daily commuter between udupi -mangalore for the past 4 years. I offten travel by these pleasant Volvo buses.

Tariff hike is fine. May the bus owners earn a little more money to maintain the buses more roadworthy and pay the drivers a little more to drive safely. Let the Manipal-Udupi-Mangalore Highway be the safest accident-free zone in the next 9 months of 2012. If so, I am sure, the passengers will pay another Rs 20 from 1st January 2013!!

Karnataka govt can reduce the entire transport cost. state govt is charging around Rupees 20 as a tax for petrol & diesel. if they really concerned about common people they can cut down tax of petrol & diesel. then ultimately all prices come down include grocery, vegetables & many items. problem is now govt is promoting price rise in Karnataka.

There is no compulsion to travel in comfort. In todays inflation, you have to shell out extra bucks for luxury which is justified according to me. Even in the Railway budget Govt initially increased prices for all sectors but later withdrew it and they have increased fare only for AC class now. So people still have choice weather they want to travel economy or premium. Considering the increaed fuel cost over the time, this rate increase is invietable & obvious considerign the services of K.S.R.T.C which is recent times proved to be the best transport services among the neigbours states which is proved by bagging many accords. But what is surprising is how come Mangalore to Udupi whihc is 60 Km, the increase in Rs 5 and to Manipal which is just another 8 km KSRTC has increased another 5 Rs, this logic is bit confusing. Considering the lack of professionelisem, lack of acknowledgment of the private bus staff to its commuters, over speeding, over crowding, abusing, crampy seats I would still prefer travelling in KSRTC wether to Blore-Mlore or Mlore-Manipal if its still affordable for me. If not or for people who think otherwise, private buses are anyways there.

THESE RATES SHOULD BE BUDGETED BEFORE INTRODUCING THE LUXURIOUS FACILITIES TO THE PUBLIC AND THE GOVT IS NOT MAKING ANY FAVORS TO THE PUBLIC BY HIKING THE PRICES INSTEAD THEY ARE FILLING THEIR SWISS ACCOUNTS AND COVERING THEIR MISTAKES IN PLANNINGS

Yes everyone using this service will feel the heat its not the matter of RS 5 or 10, but the difference of fare from private bus. For non frequent traveler VOLVO will be the luxury but for daily commuters its comfort and safe journey for which he was ready to pay bit more. KSRTC should understand this and should charge reasonably to serve the people. There is private bus lobby behind this move, since inception they have the fear that KSRTC will take over this sector.

These Volvo buses give a mileage of only 2km or less per litre of diesel. Add the maintenance cost and driver salary etc, the fee charged seem to be justified. For a Mangalore Bangalore 360 kms travel, KTC charges around 600 bucks i.e 1.66 Rs per Km, Mangalore Manipal new fare is only 1.14 Rs per Km. Also I personally feel that a luxury bus facility is not a compulsion on anyone and need to used if one can afford this luxury, else there are other options which people are free to use...

By the time Volvo leaves Manipal for Mangalore,it is like a jam packed CITY BUS. Price Hike..? No Problem..Seat First..Prie Next.
