Yenepoya University shines in quantum computing with consecutive Qiskit Hackathon wins

Media Release

Mangaluru, Oct 22: Marking a significant milestone in its journey into the emerging quantum era, Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) has achieved international recognition through the consecutive wins of its CIODS Quantum AI Team at the Qiskit Fall Fest Hackathon, organised in collaboration with IBM Quantum.

Sonet D Thomas, PhD scholar, and Naveen Joy, data scientist, were the winners of the Qiskit Fall Fest 2026 Hackathon, held at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jodhpur from October 13 to October 17. Competing in the advanced track, “Gamifying Quantum Error Detection with Spacetime Codes,” the team presented Quantum Sentinel, a project integrating quantum computing, error detection, and gamification to explore innovative approaches to quantum error detection.

This achievement follows the same team's success at Qiskit Fall Fest 2025, hosted at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, in collaboration with IBM Quantum, marking their second consecutive year of winning the prestigious hackathon.

The back-to-back victories represent a significant step in Yenepoya University's growing engagement with quantum computing and emerging quantum technologies, reinforcing its commitment to advanced research, technological innovation, and next-generation scientific talent.

This accomplishment further strengthens the university's presence in the rapidly evolving quantum landscape and highlights its growing contribution to research and innovation in the quantum era.
