Mangaluru, Oct 24: Food safety officials conducted a surprise raid on a food manufacturing unit near Kadri temple in Mangaluru on Saturday, seizing halwa and date products allegedly prepared under unhygienic conditions and issuing a notice to the unit over hygiene lapses.

The seized products were sealed and sent to a laboratory for testing, officials said.

During the inspection, the authorities identified hygiene concerns and directed the unit's management to rectify the drainage system, prevent the entry of insects, rats and other rodents, and thoroughly clean the entire premises.

The officials made it clear that food production should resume only after the facility had been completely cleaned and the necessary corrective measures implemented.

The raid was conducted by a team led by district food safety designated officer Dr Praveen Kumar C H, following instructions from health minister U T Khader.

With the festive season under way, the authorities have stressed the need for food manufacturers to take all necessary precautions to ensure food safety and maintain proper hygiene standards during production.

99% of all hotels and restaurants in DK need complete overhaul except the very high end luxury hotels and it holds good for all hotels throughout India. The important thing is that this trend should be maintained throughout and officials also should hold surprise raids. Indian hotels and restaurants are the worst in the world in terms of cleanliness and hygiene in foreign countries maintaining our culture, tradition and heritage.
