Aditya Thackeray to visit Karjat over tree felling

Daijiworld Media Network – Mumbai

Mumbai, Oct 26: Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aditya Thackeray has strongly opposed the alleged indiscriminate felling of trees for Torrent Power Company's hydroelectric project in Karjat taluka of Maharashtra's Raigad district. He is scheduled to visit the site on Monday to assess the situation.

Youth leader Vivekanand Patil, who came into the limelight during the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) agitation in Pune and gained recognition for his distinctive Kolhapuri-style speeches, has also strongly opposed the tree felling along the Karjat-Bhimashankar stretch.

The proposed project and the alleged large-scale cutting of trees have drawn criticism from activists and political leaders concerned about the environmental impact.

Meanwhile, the Bombay High Court is scheduled to hear on Monday, October 26, actor Imran Khan's petition challenging a police notice directing him to leave India following a political agitation.

The notice reportedly requires Khan to leave the country by October 28. His lawyer has argued that the actor has no criminal record and has challenged the police action before the court.

The High Court has also directed that the Maharashtra government be made a party to the petition. The hearing is expected to consider the actor's challenge to the notice.
