Margao, Oct 26: A five-year-old boy from a naval family based in Dabolim drowned in a swimming pool at a resort in Cavelossim, South Goa, on Saturday evening while attending a get-together organised by naval officers.

According to police, the boy was playing in the children's swimming pool with his seven-year-old brother and other children when he attempted to move to the adjacent adult swimming pool and fell into the water.

Police inspector Tulshidas Naik said the boy drowned while trying to enter the adult pool as the other children continued playing in the smaller pool.

The boy's parents were reportedly at the resort's restaurant when the incident occurred. He was rushed to a private hospital in Margao, where doctors declared him dead.

Inspector Naik said the family originally hails from Manipur and resides at the Naval Officers' Family Residential Area (NOFRA) in Dabolim. The boy's father is a naval officer, and the family had checked into Holiday Inn Resort in Cavelossim to attend the gathering.

Police have registered a case of unnatural death. A scene panchanama and an inquest panchanama were conducted, and the body was sent to the South Goa district hospital for further medico-legal formalities.
