Mumbai, Oct 28: The global trailer of Marathi psychological thriller ‘Gondhal: Sacred Obsession’, directed by Santosh Davakhar, has been released ahead of its worldwide theatrical release on November 13. The film stars Suresh Vishwakarma, Kailash Waghmare and Madhavi Juvekar in key roles, with legendary composer Ilaiyaraaja handling the music.

The trailer offers a glimpse into a suspenseful narrative centred on a night in the life of a newlywed couple. The story explores the conflict between faith, personal desires and family responsibilities, setting the stage for a series of mysterious events.

Produced by Diksha Davakhar under the banner of Davakhar Films, the film was initially released in Indian theatres on November 14, 2025. According to trade tracker Sacnilk, it recorded an India net collection of approximately Rs 84 lakh, with a gross collection of around Rs 90 lakh.

The film’s official synopsis on BookMyShow describes the story as follows: “A suffocating young bride, Suman, uses her lover Sarjerao's obsession in Gondhal ritual and turns sacred tradition into a deadly chess match.”

‘Gondhal’ has also been selected as India’s official entry for the 2027 Academy Awards in the Best International Feature Film category. The Film Federation of India (FFI) announced the selection on September 18 after considering 33 submissions across multiple languages and genres.

“We were confident while making and submitting the film that we will be India's official entry for the Oscars. I'm proud to represent India with my film,” he said.
