Mumbai, Oct 31: Sakinaka police have arrested a 35-year-old unemployed man for allegedly setting a cow on fire and torching 15 parked motorcycles and three shops at Yadav Nagar on Khairani Road in the early hours of Wednesday.

The accused, identified as Akash Yadav, was allegedly under the influence of alcohol when he went on an arson spree around 5.30 am, police said.

CCTV footage reportedly showed the accused carrying petrol and setting the cow's mouth on fire before targeting parked vehicles and commercial establishments.

The cow, one of eight animals kept in a shed, sustained burn injuries in the incident.

According to its owner, Vijay Yadav, the attack may have been triggered by a confrontation between the two men two days earlier. Akash had allegedly knocked down some parked motorcycles and threatened Vijay after being questioned over the incident.

The family noticed the fire after hearing the cows mooing and immediately alerted the fire brigade and police. Firefighters rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control.

Police said the accused has a criminal history and frequently created trouble in the locality. He has been arrested and remains in police custody.
