Panaji, Nov 4: Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) MLA Viresh Borkar has issued a legal notice to Ajay Kholkar over alleged defamatory statements and claims of financial impropriety, demanding an unconditional public apology within three days.

The notice follows Kholkar's challenge to Borkar to produce evidence for his allegation that he had misappropriated Rs 24 lakh from the party account.

Addressing the media, Borkar said Kholkar must issue an unconditional public apology within three days, failing which he would initiate criminal proceedings and seek Rs 6 crore in damages.

Reacting to Kholkar's threat to end his political career and his offer to let Borkar inspect his house, the RGP MLA said that a person's political future was decided by the electorate.

"To end anyone's political career, it is the people who will decide because they are the ones who will elect their representative. He is no God to decide anyone's future," Borkar said.

Kholkar had also described the protest at the Town and Country Planning (TCP) office against Section 39A as a political stunt by Borkar. Responding to the allegation, the MLA said he was not the only person who took part in the protest, which saw people from different parts of the state joining to express their anger against the government. He also pointed out that Kholkar himself was present at the protest.

Borkar further said that he and his supporters were prepared to launch another hunger strike, dismissing claims that their earlier agitation was politically motivated. He maintained that they had stood with the people in their fight against the government.

"While some were away on honeymoons, we were protesting on the streets. We are ready to do it again," he said.
