Dreams have no borders: Udupian 6-year-old Salman from Thailand heads to skateboarding nationals

Media Release

Udupi, Nov 8: Six-year-old Salman Sharik Sheik, whose parents basically hail from Udupi, travelled from Thailand to Bengaluru for the Karnataka State Skateboarding Championship held on November 1, where he secured first place in the under-8 street skateboarding event.

He has been selected to represent Karnataka at the national championship scheduled to be held in Chintamani in December. According to his family, he is the youngest skateboarder selected from Karnataka for the event.

Salman goes to school in Thailand and trains at local skateparks. He started skateboarding at the age of four and competed in Pattaya, Thailand, at ages four and five. His family proudly notes that he was the youngest skateboarder at the competition during both years.

For young skaters, Salman’s journey starts with familiar steps: learning to balance, getting back on the board after a fall and trying a trick again. For his parents, Sharik Hussain and Saniha Sheik, supporting that journey has meant making time for practice and encouraging him to keep going while letting him enjoy the sport. Seeing him represent Karnataka is especially meaningful for them, given their strong roots in Udupi and Mangaluru.

Readers can follow Salman’s journey on the 'Alpha-Tiger' Instagram page and contact his family there via direct message for collaborations.
