Mangalore, Apr 6: A large number of devotees assembled at Rosario Cathedral here on Friday April 6 to observe Good Friday.

The ceremonies began at 5 pm, led by Bishop Dr Aloysius Paul D'Souza.

The ceremonies included unveiling of the Cross, prayers for intentions, veneration of the Cross, the pascal sermon and lowering of the body from the Cross.

The pascal sermon was delivered by Fr Rocky of Gladson Home. He spoke of the importance of giving oneself to others the way Jesus did, and explained in detail the meaning of passion of Christ.

With the help of a story, he spoke of the deep love a father feels for his son, and said that it indicates what God must have felt in sending his Son to the earth to save mankind.

The service was followed by a solemn procession from the Cathedral through Pandeshwar and back to the Cathedral.

Among those present were Rosario parish priest Fr Stanly Goveas, assistant parish priest Fr Roshan and Fr Alwyn Serrao, apart from the bishop.

Earlier in the day, the Way of the Cross was held at the Cathedral at around 12 pm.
