Mangalore, Apr 12: A major traffic jam on Netravati bridge created disruptions here on Thursday April 12.

A lorry that was moving on the bridge developed problems and was stalled mid-way on the bridge. As a result traffic moving from both sides was affected.

Long lines of vehicles had to wait for more than two hours to cross the bridge on both ends, as traffic moved at a snail's pace.

Though it was past school and college rush-hour time, office-goers and general public were affected. Even ambulances could not pass through.

Many of them were seen leaving their vehicles and choosing to cross the bridge on foot.

Traffic was affected till Ujjodi, Yekkur and Gorigudda on one side and Thokkottu on the other.

Kankanady rural police arrived at the spot and after some effort managed to smoothen the gridlock.

The lorry was repaired and moved from the spot, thus restoring traffic.

To control infection you should remove the source, same way i requested helpless police constable pull the lorry away from the bridge using Hitachi which was there (navayugs). The lorry could have been towwed by 8.15am .The whole problem could have solved but he did not listen rest is history .Please educate the cops.Moral of the story common sense prevails.

This is absolutely ridiculous for a lorry to breakdown in the middle of a bridge. The traffic police should have gone into action and took out the lorry with the help of tow trucks or any other means. The traffic for blocked for a long time and even an Ambulance could not pass through and if there was a very sick patient in it I do not know what would have happened. Already the roads are bad due to construction work and this kind of breakdown takes place.

    Dear Harsha Malhotra,
You are 100% correct. One simple example: Construction quality and design of Mangalore flyovers.
You will not find such type of construction anywhere in India.
If you go to Mangalore Railway station, Karalite’s ruling.
    Mangalore public are least bothered.

If not lorry breakdown, what we expect bicycle breakdown in Mangalore roads. Poor garage ownners are sitting one next to other, let them get some work from overloaded Bus & truck owners.

Vehicle breakdown in any place is a routine one but quick action from the traffic police a question?which is not a digestable at all.May be traffic police is waiting to know who will pay for the towing car,is very simple the lorry owner!.Looks a routine needed for the Mangalore traffic police and it's adminstration.

Classic Example of failure of administration, impatient drivers.

    Simple solution,

1.when vehicle breaks down, call Police & towing truck.
    2. Let the police control the traffic & also supervise the broken down vehicle to towed from the road to nearesst workshop\garage.
    3. Let the vehicle owner bare towing expenses.
    4. Hurring up, trying to overtake by making 2, 3, lanes only cause more traffic jam and increase the delay.
