Mangalore: National Women's Front to Campaign Against Dowry from Apr 15

Mangalore, Apr 12:
“National Women’s Front (NWF) Karnataka state committee will hold an anti-dowry campaign from Sunday April 15 to Monday May 21 across the state and the inauguration will be in Mysore by NWF national president Shahida Tasneem”, said Fathima Naseema, state chief secretary, NWF, at a press conference held on Thursday April 12.

She added that the evils of dowry have been growing across the nation crossing the borders of social and religious backgrounds. Cases of marriages being postponed, divorce cases, and physical harassment of married women are also taking place she noted and asserted that just the law would not change the situation and awareness would help.
 
“Hence, the anti-dowry campaign with the theme ‘Dowry Desirer, Social Evil’ will include camps in villages, seminars, public programmes, district-level convention, counseling, rally, and cultural programmes. Women from other communities will also participate in the campaign and various women unions will extend their support for the cause,” said Naseema.
 
Sayida, state vice-president, NWF, Karnataka, Sameena Malar, district president, NWF, DK, and Zareena, district president, NWF, Udupi, were present at the press meet.
