Mangalore, Apr 14: A theft of gold worth Rs 62,000 has been reported from a jewellery store near Central Market here on Saturday April 14.

A lady along with four men is said to have entered Roshni Jewellers at around 12.15 pm and asked the salesgirl to show an anklet. When the salesgirl went away to get the piece, one of the men is said to have snatched a tray full of rings and slipped them into the child's clothes. They managed to escape without catching anyone's attention, and without purchasing anything.

Only after the gang left did the owner of the shop Rajeshan Kurdekar and the salesgirl realize that the rings were missing. The theft and identities of the thieves have been confirmed through CCTV footage.

The gang slipped away with 52 rings of total 25 grams, worth Rs 62,000.

Bunder police have registered a case.

52 rings and only 25 grams??? That means each ring is only 0.50 or 0.40 grams. Strange.

Nowadays there has been many robberies just for gold as gold prices have sky rocketed. This is a strange case whereby four men and a woman with a child went into Roshni Jewellers and walked out with a tray with rings while the salesman went inside to show get the anklet. I hope these thieves get caught as the CCTV was on.

It needn't be told that there are extremely professional gangs who know the modus operandi of making a heist of the loot ... time and again these so called scoundrels keep a hawk's eye from the neighbouring areas, survey the number of people / customers entering and exiting the shop note carefully the timely intervals of sales girls / sales men relieving themselves for break during loading and offloading of jewellery - when the other substitute is about to take charge at the counter. Under the guise of purchasing some items these very scoundrels deliberately crowd the jewellery shops accompanied with their "family members". They "conduct" a mock session, stay in the shop as much time as possible and asking all silly type of queries as if they are potential buyers. In the process they utilize as much time as possible giving a clue to the outsider who then helps with fleeing with the loot after thoroughly observing the surroundings and being doubly sure that there is no trouble within and outside the premises. Strangely, there isn't any security guard manning the entrance. It doesn't seem to me that the jewellery shop owner must have been serious enough to recruit one for his own safety. Even modern day technology like CCTV may not be very helpful at times, depending upon its working condition and also if really provides a clue to the cops to nail down the culprits. Anyway, all the very best to the cops who are already overloaded with their own work ... they have another case to crack open to that too in the least possible time.
