Udupi, Apr 18: The inaugural ceremony of Rangoli Kala Parishat and release of a research book on ‘Rangoli’ authored by Dr Bharati Maravante was held at Madhwa Mantap on Tuesday April 17.

Dr Shanti Nayak Honnavar, after releasing the book said that Rangoli is an ancient art.

“It’s drawn using coloured powder and creative imagination. Our ancestors have done several miracles by floating Rangoli dropped on water. Rangoli is originally an art from Maharashtra that has made global impact. The art work can be found on flower pots, saris, and bamboo baskets. Some people even worship Rangoli,” added Dr Nayak.

Speaking on the occasion, Professor K R Hande said that he was stunned on reading the book authored by Dr Maravante. “The ancient civilization has grown artistically, scientifically, and spiritually. Its a treasure trove of beauty and unraveling the truth has been elaborated in the book,” he added.

Swami Vishvawallabhateerta inaugurated Rangoli Kala Parishat on the occasion. Shalini Shetty and others were the chief guests on the occasion.

Dr H Shantaram and others were the guests of honour. Ravindra Nayak presided over the programme.

Swami Vishvawallabateerta felicitated Sangeet Vibhushan Vasudev Bhat. Shalini Shetty and Harikrishna Punaroor distributed prizes to the winners of Rangoli competitions.

Kenchanoor Shankar and Information and Broadcasting officer Junjanna were also present.

Dr Kanarady Vadiraj Bhat and Sasidar Halady welcomed the gathering. Dr Bharat Maravante proposed the vote of thanks. Laxmibai compered the programme.
