Udupi: Water Tanker Supply Starts in 18 Gram Panchayats

Udupi, Apr 19: MLA Raghupati Bhat inaugurated the tanker water supply to localities in  gram panchayats in Udupi legislative assembly constituency, at Handady, on Tuesday April 17.

Addressing the locals at Handady gram panchayat office, Bhat said that drinking water will be supplied by tankers in different localities of 15 gram panchayats with the exception of Varamballi, Kemmannu, and Badanidiyoor in Udupi legislative assembly constituency. 

“The district administration has sanctioned Rs 1 crore in this regard and will release the funds if each gram panchayat submits their report to the task force committee at the earliest.  Till then, he has taken the initiative to supply drinking water through four tankers,” he added.

“Drinking water is being supplied to Nalkoor, Kaltoor–Santekatte, Karje, and Kokkarne from Jomluteerta rivulet, while water is being supplied to Chekardy, Kunjalu, Chantaru, Handady, Uppoo, and other villages from Uppinakote,” added Bhat.

“Drinking water will be supplied 3–4 times in a week for a few gram panchayats and 9 times in a week in places where there exists severe water scarcity,” he said.

He added that the tanker water supply is a quick remedy and permanent measures such as exploring water resources, digging new wells, de-silting nature ponds and lakes, will be done at the earliest.

Small irrigation department executive engineer D V Hegde and others were present on the occasion.
