KSRTC Goes Super-tech: Siren to Show Red Signal for Drunken Driver

Daijiworld Media Network - Bangalore

Bangalore, Apr 20: No doubt Karntaka State Road Transport is considered one of most efficient government institutions in India, having bagged several awards for its achievements.

But awards apart, what will really win the hearts of millions of commuters in the state is its new, innovative method to curb drunken driving.

Soon after announcing that KSRTC Volvo buses will along with pantry and toilet facilities, state home and transport minister R Ashok announced another 'super-tech' facility which could give a big sigh of relief to all those passengers who are worried about rash and negligent drivers, specially those who drink and drive.

Minister R Ashok inspects KSRTC's latest technology

The latest technology is based on sensor - if a driver drinks and touches the steering wheel, a siren will go off and he will not be able to start the bus. The sensor technology is designed to guage alcohol consumption of the driver, and the bus will start again only if a new driver who is not on alcohol takes the wheel.

This facility, which will be implemented very soon, can help reduce the number of accidents in the state, said R Ashok.

One only hopes that the technology is introduced soon, and that it really works.

If only all private and public vehicles could implement this technology, a major number of accidents could be prevented.

However, those drivers who cannot drive without drinks, would now find a way to wriggle out from this sensor! Nevertheless, it is hoped that the technology would be fool-proof so that no clever chap may be able to tweek the siren system.

In bangalore the Police is very strict about drinking alcohol and driving.Checking is done at many junctions. The worst is the unhygienic way of checking. The instrument in which each one has to blow is never cleaned / washed for the next offender (?).The same is thrust into everyone's mouth.Imagine if one has vomited after consuming alcohol. One can imagine the germs of each one being dispersed every night ! Some action needs to be taken on this unhygienic checking.

KSRTC should have implemented this secretly. They should have fired the drivers on evidence. Surprise element should have been used for advantage

    Hi,
Guess there should be a discipline imbibed into the bus drivers community that drinking and driving is a " TOTAL NO NO" instead of catching them for their faults it is best to educate them of their faults.
There should be classes / sessions taking them through as to how the lives of so many are at stake while they are at the wheel and only then would this drunken driving menace come to an end.
Besides the above, surely there should be some stringent tests for a driver before he boards the bus to ensure that he is off alcohol, if not as good with the airlines rules at-least close to it.
We are working towards a responsible and caring society lets all contribute towards the same.
    Kind Regards
    Aladdin Pais
