Mangalore: Cultural Programme Marks Gopalkrishna Temple Anniversary

Mangalore, Apr 26: A programme was held at Shree Gopalkrishna Temple premises here on Wednesday April 25 as part of the ongoing 'Namarchane' as part of its fifth anniversary celebrations.

Addressing the gathering, state Tulu Sahitya Academy president spoke on the merits of tulsi plant and said that it is ayurvedic susbstance which is used in all ayurvedic medicines.

He further said that in modern days when a death occurs, it is the doctors who certify it. "But in the olden days tulsi water would be put on the person's mouth, which would indicate whether he was dead or alive. Such is the power of tulsi," he said, adding that it is the most revered plant in Indian tradition.

He also lauded K C Naik for building the Shree Gopalkrishna Temple and congratulated him.

M Jayadev of RSS said that religious programmes such as these help in fostering values in the society. Those who propagate religion and faith have failed to take a stand on the current issues in the society, he lamented.

'Yeluver Deyyar', a Tulu dance play was staged on the occasion by the artistes of Natyaniketan troupe, Kotekar under the direction of Ullal Mohan Kumar.

Chancellor of Indian Cultural Foundation Yerya Laxminarayan Alva spoke on how Tulu is binding the people of different communities in the coastal region.

Among those present were entrepreneur Harish Sherigar, CDA chairman B Nagaraj Shetty, former MP Vinay Kumar Sorake, Krishna Prasad Adyanthaya of Kollur Mookambika Temple committee and many others.
