Udupi, May 17: “As theft cases are increasing in the neighbourhood of Kaup with every passing day, the general public has to keep watch over strangers who are moving suspiciously in the locality,” urged Kaup circle inspector Shivanand Walikar.

He was speaking at a public meet held in Katpady and Kaup on Thursday May 17, to create awareness about recurrent thefts in houses inhabited by lonely persons and pickpockets and chain-snatching cases on the streets.

Walikar also urged the general public to co-operate with the police in giving the tip-off and also be on guard on thieves.

Walikar also asked the general public not to allow peddling salesmen and rag pickers into their household, and to inform the local police if they suspect any criminal motive.  “Families who are going on long vacations must inform the local police station and should not carry jewellery worth huge amounts.  If the jewellery is being kept in safe lockers in banks, they can avoid losing them,” he advised.

Kaup ASI Ganesh, Katpady sub-inspector Gowri Shankar, and police personnel were present on the occasion.
