Mangalore, May 24: "With hike in the prices of commodities, especially petrol by Rs 7.50 a litre, the UPA government has completely put the life of the common man out of gear," said MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, during a protest held here on Thursday May 24.
The protest was organized by the city unit of BJP in front of the DC’s office here, against the recent hike in the price of petrol by the UPA government.
"The UPA government came to power with a promise to serve the poor, but now they have actually put the common man in big trouble. If the government fails to bring down the price of the fuel, we will stage an intense protest across the country," he said.
"Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has acted according to the dictates of Congress president Sonia Gandhi and hence provided weak governance. Instead of focusing on naxal activities, terrorism, black money and other important issues, the government is playing with the life of the common man by hiking the prices of commodities on a daily basis," he said.
"Manmohan Singh should immediately resign from his post as he is not capable of handling the situation," he added.
BJP district leader K Monappa Bhandary also lamented the margin of the hike in petrol prices and the sudden execution of the decision.
"The impact of the hike is most felt by the common man. The UPA government has contributed to the country only with inflation and has not done any good. UPA government has looted India more than the British," said Shrikar Prabhu.
BJP leader Sudhir Shetty Kannur, deputy mayor Amitakala also spoke on the occasion along similar lines.
After the protest a memorandum addressed to the President of India to revoke the price hike was submitted.
Nitin Kumar, Raghavendra, Rupa D Bangera, Ramchandar Baikampady and others were present.
