Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore (VM)

Mangalore, Jun 20: The students of Mangalore Institute of Technology and Engineering (MITE) from Moodbidri have developed a new technology designed to tackle scarcity of space for car parking.

Hydraulic car parking is an ideal solution for congested parking spaces and MITE students have designed it keeping in mind the emerging parking problem in cities.

Developed under a project titled ‘Design and fabrication of parking enabled device for car’ MITE students Prathap P Shenoy, R P Satyajeeth, Sachin Shenoy and Santhosh Shetty from mechanical engineering have conducted the research under the guidance of associate professor N Venkatesh.

How it works

The hydraulic technology helps one to park a car between two cars using minimum space. With the help of small hydraulic tyres a car can be lifted and moved in and out of a designated spot, from outside the car. The vehicle can be moved vertically and horizontally to a vacant parking space.  It is said that with the use of this technology one can park 123 cars in a 100-car space.

T Srinivasan (principal), Rajesh (mechanical department head) congratulated the research team.

    Most stupid idea!
Even the teachers are also having no judgement, this gives wrong message about quality of education.

We can say it as a good start, instead making negative point on those who worked on the project, its better to give alternative ideas which could improve the project more. this is really a good move al ready we are facing lot many problems in cities like Bangalore, we cannot just park vehicles even if we find space just because we cant slide vehicle, I have experienced this, so it would be better if it improve.
    thank you

Through the stupid idea in to Arabian sea. Its not going to work, I bet on this. What on earth you people going to prove?. Thinking of creating world record?

Do not waste time for the sake of records. Do something usefull, part of India today is without drinking water, and we in India go through such kind of end less problems which needs immediate solutions. Hope you people would take this in good spirit.

    Dear readers,
Good luck to the project. This technology seems to be duplication since advance 'Robert parking' and cars with wheels turning 90 degrees is already tested successfully.
They should have rather considered on energy issues like combined cycle of pneumatic, solar and bio for the automobiles.

This project titled 'Parking Enabler device for Cars' is just not a theoretical concept but can definitely be implemented by the original manufacturers. I wish to clarify about some of the doubts raised by the readers.
    1. The space occupied by the power-pack device in the car. Cars already having power-steering mechanism, have a hydraulic pump which will replace the entire 'huge' power-pack device. This will reduce the space consumption as well as the weight.
    2. This system is an integral part of each and every car, and not a trolley or a platform that lifts the car.
    3. It can be automated to such a high level that the valves can be made remote-controlled by the implementation of electronics.
    4. Sensors can be incorporated to tackle the problem of collision of cars during parking.
    5. The model implemented by us is just to prove the concept and for improvisation, sky is the limit, which can be taken up with further research by the original car manufacturers.
    6. The car will not just start running down in slope as hydraulic motor is directly coupled to the wheel under the central jack. It possesses enough torque to prevent rolling of the car.
We are still working on this project to bring it out into the market with all possible improvisations.
I wish to thank everyone for the comments and encouraging words.

Hats off to the brilliant idea. At least there is some beginning here. And to the readers and negative comments I would say, we gotta start somewhere. In order to fly in the sky, first one has to look up at the sky and the birds and not at the ground, and in order to sail, first one has to look at the sea and sea creatures and emulate them and not simply sit on the land wish he could swim.

So, this could be just the beginning towards the permanent solution for a huge and nasty problem all over the world. I appreciate it because in spite of being in Mangalore - where parking is not a major problem (what I mean is you could find unpaved empty space anywhere) - you guys had that sixth sense to admit that parking IS A PROBLEM everywhere in the world. I am sure this idea will click in a city like Dubai where there are super flat hard surfaces everywhere and you must park only at designated spaces. And believe me, this is not altogether a vague idea. Surely this is workable.

And to Yathish Kumar, Attavar / Dubai, I am sure they will find the solution for coconut plucking problem also. Who knows some MITE students maybe already working on coconut trees !

I particularly salute the Mechanical dept. of MITE for their initiative and wish them best of luck. I must admit, of late, I have heard a lot about MITE. Keep it up sir. Don’t worry about the critics. They will keep quite when some day, you will be able to apply for the patent for your design. When Archimedes accidentally discovered the law of buoyancy in 212 BC he got so much ecstatic that he went running on the open roads shouting Eureka. And people ran after him to catch him thinking he was mad. He was not mad. He was just naked !

PARKING is one problem. The other problem the people now facing is to get people to climb tall coconut trees,so I remind the MITE students to invent something which makes easy to pluck coconut's without climbing the tree

How a women driver will park the car
This looks like you lift the car using a 4 wheel jack and push aside. How are you going to control the movement in slope Your car will run without any control and land in fields or in ditches.
The leader should work on something which is cost effective and fecible to impliment.develop solar energy vehicle / design gear box that gives high milage with low fuel Jai hind

Congrats.... Another thing which is need of the hour is a remote operated canopy atleast for the driver to give shelter while raining. Now in all vehicles, while raining one has to wet before opening the umbrella.

An auto remote operated, able to stretch above the head or close made up of canvass or acrylic fabric is expected...

Think about it guys.... Congrats to Mr. Rajesh Shetty & Team...

This looks like a waste of valuable time and worthless effort by our technical professionals.
What we need is less number of vehicles on roads with more capacities, in order to have good public transport facilities.

What new in this .It is only for one type model car. what you will do with other model cars. if you put the troly in wrong place under the the car you will end up with damaging the car .This idea is not going to solve the parking problems anyway.
