Bantwal, Jul 1: Tension prevailed in Kalladka here on Saturday June 20 after a vehicle that was said to be transporting cattle illegally was stopped by a group. The incident snowballed into a full-fledged fight between the two sides, forcing the police to intervene and resort to lathicharge.

On Saturday evening, a tempo that was allegedly transporting cattle illegally was forcibly stopped by a group which intercepted the vehicle with motorbikes. The tempo reportedly hit one of the bikes, as a result of which, the angered group allegedly assaulted the tempo driver.

Another group arrived at the spot and clashes erupted between both the groups, which in turn took on a communal flavour creating tension in the area. Some of them pelted stones and soda bottles on shops and other vehicles, leaving them badly damaged.

As the situation worsened, many shops in the surroundings voluntarily closed down. Some also forcibly stopped vehicles, damaged them and also assaulted a few people, it is learnt.

Police teams from Mangalore, Puttur and Vittal were called to contol the mob. The police resorted to lathi charge to bring the situation under control. Tight security has been deployed in the area.

It is learnt that six people have been injured and 10 vehicles damaged.

DK district SP Abhishek Goyal and Puttur ASP Anucheth visited the spot. Bantwal town police inspector Shekar, rural police inspector Mahesh Prasad and other policemen are monitoring the situation.

Correction Mr. Mahendra Shetty, not "we are safe", the cows are safe! Humans are not being cared for, read the article from Anjana, I haven't heard of anything like this done by the BD's. They just thrash the girls and women and protect the cows!

If you see the number of cases where cattle saved from so called illegal transport in the last three years then the ‘goshaalas’ must be over crowded by cows.I doubt they are secretly sold overnight to the slaughter house.May be they are legally transported in a airconditioned transport veichle so the cattle reach in good health. These transporters should make alterations to these trucks so that cattle can be legally carried with good healthy conditions.

What makes to say this incident is a illegal transport of cattle?.Do you need permission to transport cattle from one place to another?.Why the people has to follow and chase the truck even after you call up the police to handle the matter?.This clearly shows that, the people involved themselves invite trouble by chasing and intercepting the truck.Only the RTO can intercept the truck and see that safety measures are taken care both for the driver and the cattle.

It is not proved that the cattle is taken to slaughter house. It is not proved that it is illegal to transport the cattle and then what makes the people chase it and then create havoc in the city. The police should arrest all those who chased the truck and assaulted the driver .The pictures clearly shows that the truck is spacious for the cattle in it.The Karnataka state government is in a pathetic situation and now this another incident is sufficient to bring down the government if timely measures not met at right time.
