Washington, Jul 9 (IANS): The US has unveiled a 12-man basketball squad for the London Olympics.
"We would have difficulty getting down to a roster of 12, regardless of the number of injuries that have taken place. They all are such an outstanding group of people and athletes," USA Basketball chairman Jerry Colangelo said in a statement.
"The final selections keep us in concert with our game plan to have athleticism, versatility and strong depth on our roster. I think our final roster epitomizes all of that."
The latest version of the US. Olympic Dream team, which first played in Barcelona 20 years ago, includes five Beijing Olympics gold medal-winners: LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Carmelo Anthony, Chris Paul and Deron Williams.
NBA scoring champion Kevin Durant and Oklahoma City teammate Russell Westbrook will be joined by 2010 World Championship teammates Tyson Chandler and Kevin Love guided by Duke University coach Mike Krzyzewski.
Missing out on the selection were Eric Gordon, Rudy Gay and Anthony Davis, who could not scrimmage this week because of a sprained ankle. Injuries have ruled out NBA stars Dwight Howard, Derrick Rose, Dwyane Wade and forward Chris Bosh.
