Udupi, Jul 18: The members of various organizations and students formed a human barricade in front of the historic ‘Ninni-kallu Paade (rock)’, protesting against the recent move to convert the area into an industrial sector by the KIADB.
The protestors on Monday condemned the acquisition of place for the industrial purposes, here in Nandikur.
‘Ninni-kallu Paade’, which exists from the 15th century, consists of monuments of the palace of Kunda Hegde of Ellur, fort, idols of Naga Baireshwara and other relics. Hence, the protestors urged to conserve the historic heritage and its glory.
In the name of development, the government is trying to demolish the historic place, heritage and monuments. If the plan is not dropped immediately, we will intensify our protest, the agitators warned.
