Udupi, Jul 19: “I have been a farmer in your midst at my native Kota, near here, and I have grown to this stature with your blessings.  I will effectively face any challenges as a minister for religious endowment, ports, and hinterland transport,” said new minister Kota Srinivas Poojary.

He was speaking at the felicitations from his hometown after he arrived here on Wednesday July 18 for the first time after taking oath as state minister.  It was organized by Karanth Award Foundation.

“The temples in undivided Dakshina Kannada district are well-developed amongst the 35,000 temples across the state.  The portfolio of religious endowment is being given to me to maintain the same in other parts of the state,” said Poojary.  He assured the gathering that with their blessings, he will work honestly in this regard.

Poojary said that he would follow in the footsteps of former minister Dr V S Acharya who was the religious endowment and district-in-charge minister in order to get laurels to the land of legendary Jnanapeeta award recipient, the late Shivaram Karant.

Karant Award Foundation honorary president Anand C Kundar said that the coastal district has seen rapid progress in the recent past while the clearing of silt from pathways of fisheries boats in Hangarakatte–Kodi jetties will ease the hardships of the fisheries community.

Kotatattu gram panchayat president Raghu Tingalaya presided over the programme.

Kotatattu gram panchayat vice-president Annappa, district Kannada Sahitya Parishat president Nilavar Surendra Adiga, Saligram children’s Yakshagana troupe convener H Sridar Hande, Raghavendra Urala, district BJP president Uday Kumar Shetty, ZP member Sunita Rajaram, TP member Bharat Kumar Shetty, Raghavendra Kanchan, and Malini Mallya were present on the occasion.

Village elders Vittal V Gaonkar, Prakash Bhat, and Rajaram Aithal and others conveyed best wishes. Meera welcomed the gathering.  Satish Poojary compered the programme.
