Polytechnic Students in M'lore, Udupi Protest Changes in Carry-over System

Mangalore, Jul 20: Condemning the decision of the government on modifying the carry-over system, the students of polytechnic under the banner of Akhila Bharathiya Vidyarthi Parishat (ABVP) staged a protest at Bunts hostel circle here on Friday, July 20.

Chinmay Rai, secretary of ABVP said, "Without providing necessary circular to the students before the end semester exams, the authorities have made changes in the carry-over system, thereby affecting the future of the students."

According to the plan that was stated by the late Dr VS Acharya, minister of higher education, diploma students of 3rd and 5th semester were allowed to continue their education with up to ten pending subjects.

However, in the recent changes, the students are allowed to continue in the next semester with up to four pending subjects only, he lamented. He said that prior information on the change would have helped students.

In addition, the agitators urged the authorities to provide fundamental facilities like laboratories, more faculty and proper infrastructure.

Udupi Jul 20: Students of polytechnic colleges across the district staged protest in front of the DC office here on Friday July 20 against the change in carry-over system for diploma courses.

The protesters wanted the state government to introduce the carry-over system for students pursuing diploma courses. The new guidelines given by the education board state that students who fail in more than four subjects in the diploma course would not be given admission to the next semester, due to which majority of the students will be forced to lose a year.

They urged the government to allow first and second year students, who have not passed in all subjects, to be admitted to the next year of study.
 
They raised slogans against the board of technical education and the state government for bringing changes in the ‘carry-over’ system.
 
Previously, on July 15 a complaint was forwarded to Udupi MLA Raghupathi Bhat.
 
Steven D'Souza from the automobile department, Nikhil, Adnan, Chethan and Nithin from civil department have put forward the appeal to the DC.

    oh mr anand if u r tokin abt ur precious years n that u want these peoples nt to allow the carry overs then lemme make u very clear that i m a distinction student in my first year n as soon as i came to second year non of my theory papers wer cleard inspired of havin more than hundered in the practicles.... So beforr darin to blame us u go n try to make this system to b less coroupted nd be true in there duty... Rather makin the students pass with all under the desk works....

    the govn is really sick!!! CM seat will be changing nd new edu ministers nd new rules nd finally students are suffering ..the circular of 10backlogs changed to 4 after the results if they would informed abt 4 backlogs before the exam time table atleast it would have helpful to us..but now they are informing after the results where we cannot do anything ..now they have to continue the previous circular of 10backlogs then it will be fine.. DTE board doesnt have any
    concern abt students they just change the rules however they want..

    plz give carry over so many students has not score in 14 subject maximum give carry over subjects any 14 u not give means all karnataka students block railwatys trains so many students going to do sucide thata way give carry over

    let they cancel the 4 carry over system to then this students come to know the pain. I think this system is done for the institute profit.. if its rule that every one should clear all the subjects only 5 or students be in class...

    I am happy to hear that U want quality education. But you know one thing Sir, we are writing the 96 marks exam.....& getting 36....From the very first day of new year our faculty is telling us....."I know you all are going to fail this year.. I know...." These r the words we all are getting from our teacher....Not getting a single word of motivation....The subject where 16 chapter was there...They completed only 9 & our faculty left....then after also I have written good...But result Fail......One more thing sir....In last 3 semester I was the topper of my branch ....got my 1st back in 3rd sem in one subject...in which they taught only 9 chapter out of 16.....& this sem i have give 4 1(back paper) exam & didn't passed in a single one....in all subject my marks are 23-26. I was sure that i will not clear one subject ...in that one i got 23...surprisingly , in the paper in which i was 100% confident that i will clear this..In that one also i got 23....Passing % of all over karnataka is 42% ...Now tell me sir which type of Quality education you want?????????

    Guys if you can't study Diploma subjects,then join ITI.Don't Spoil the value of Diploma.you are responsible for loosing one year.we need quality of education.

    Dear students,

    You are worried about losing a year with 4 pending subjects in hand, but wouldn't you run the same risk when you complete the course with a few uncleared subjects in hand? Who will employ you without a degree certificate? I personally wouldn't.

    More over, why are you publicly projecting your inability to complete the course? It appears to be an icing on your cake of incompetence?

    Get back to your classes.

    Whose fault is it to flunk in 4 subjects while being unprepared to lose a year anyway? Are you doing your country a favour?
    These clueless truants are trying to piss into people’s ears while trying to convince them that it’s raining. Four failed subjects in hand and the idiots want an auto-promotion to the next semester? Do you want chips with that?
    If these gormless, feckless layabouts have any sense of seriousness in their life they would be aiming at clearing the subjects instead of asking for an easy way forward. Have they really seen what’s happening in the outside world, how difficult it is to find a decent career? They must be under the clouded perception that higher education is an inalienable right to life. Good luck with that.
