Udupi, Jul 25: Lokayukta officials on Wednesday July 25 carried out a raid at taluk office here.
Surveryor Shanmuga was caught red-handed accepting a bribe of Rs 2000.
The raid was conducted based on a complaint by Nagaraj Bhat from Katapady. Last month, he wanted a survey done for 36 cents of land owned by his mother Lalitamma at Nadsal near Padubidri.
Shanmuga reportedly demanded a bribe of Rs 2000 from Bhat to do the survey, following which Bhat agreed to pay him after the survey was done.
As per the agreement, on Tuesday Shanmuga carried out the survey of the land, and on Wednesday demanded the money from Bhat again. The latter recorded their conversation, and the same afternoon, approached the Lokayukta with the evidence.
The officials then laid a trap for the surveyor and caught him red-handed.
Lokayukta SP Jagamayyanavar and inspectors Thimmaya and Dineshkumar were part of the raid operation, along with head constables Ramachandra Bhat, Diwakar Sharma, Diwakar Suvarna, Nagesh Udupa, woman head constable Shobha, constable Shridhar, Umesh, Riyaz, Shivarai, and reserve police personnel Santhosh and Dinesh.

Wed, Jul 25 2012This man was caught twice before for accepting bribe. I am not surprised instead of being fired, he will be back on the job to feed the bit of bribe to higher corrupt authority.
