Mangalore: Gurkars' Day Celebrated at Valencia Church

Mangalore, Aug 12:
It was a special day for the Gurkars of Valencia Parish, a day of celebration and felicitations as the Gurkars' Day was celebrated at St Vincent Ferrer Church, Valencia on Saturday August 11.

The services rendered by Gurkars and their importance was the focus of the homily offered by Fr Oniel D’Souza, director of CODP Mangalore.  A total of 45 Gurkars were remembered for their selfless service to the Ward and the Church in a special way.  They were all felicitated during the mass with a memento and a bouquet of flowers. A small get together was organized after the mass. 

Victor Mathias (Vitori Karkol) was the chief guest.  He highlighted the importance of the Gurkars in the older and modern days and said that they enjoy a special place in the community.  Fr Bonaventure Nazareth, parish priest welcomed the Gurkars and thanked all for their exemplary services to the Church, Ward and the community at large. 

Rita Menezes, vice president of parish pastoral parishad threw light on the life of the Gurkars. 

Cultural committee of the parish organized the program. Patrick D’Souza compered the programme and Anitha Rodrigues proposed the vote of thanks.  All present were treated to a sumptuous dinner.
