Mangalore: Milk Producers' Federation Rubbishes Rumours, Says Nandini safe

Update

Mangalore, Aug 20: In the wake of rumours regarding suspected contamination of Nandini milk, as reported by Daijiworld earlier, Raviraj Hegde, president of Dakshina Kannada Cooperative Milk Producers' Federation (DKCMPF) convened an emergency press meet and clarified that Nandini milk was safe and unadulterated.

Addressing reporters here on Monday August 20, Raviraj said that a few media and individuals through SMS had spread rumours about contamination of Nandini milk, which was unfortunate. "A few anti-social elements are creating nuisance and trying to instill fear in the minds of the people, and this is also their handiwork," he alleged.

"There is absolutely no truth in the rumours," he declared.

"The milk federation has been awarded ISO - 22000-2005 certification. Nandini milk is processed scientifically and undergoes quality check every day" he said.

"The rumours started on Sunday August 19 night in various parts of the state, and on Monday they spread to Dakshina Kannada also," he explained, adding, "As it was festival day, 3.36 litres of milk was bought by 2.5 lac consumers. Not a single untoward incident has been reported."

To prove their point, the members of the federation and others who were present drank milk from Nandini packets right in front of the media.  They also took the mediapersons on a tour of the manufacturing and packaging units of the dairy and explained the process.

To a query on how and where the rumours started, Raviraj said nothing was not confirmed as yet, and that a complaint has been lodged with the police. "The police also came to the dairy and inspected. They are trying to find the source of the rumours," he added.

"DK milk federation has been supplying milk for 25 years and has been known for its quality.
Such an incident has never happened before," he said.

Federation members and dairy officials Savanoor Seetaram Rai, Bavanta Bettu Niranjan, Sucharita Shetty, Satyanaranyana and Suresh were present.

Earlier in the day, police commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh said that action will be taken against those who are spreading such rumours.

That the number of messages per day has been restricted to only five should make the task of the police easier. It is to be noted that the worse affected by rumours would perhaps be the farmers who supply the milk.

Mangalore: Nandini Milk Contaminated? - It's a Rumour, says DKMUL Manager

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore (VM)

Mangalore, Aug 20: A number of consumers of Nandini milk in the city on Monday August 20 woke up to speculations that the milk was contaminated and should not be consumed.

Several people raised concerns about the issue, and some even threw away the milk.

When Daijiworld investigated and spoke to sources at the milk dairy, it was revealed that it was just a rumour and had no truth in it.  A source at the dairy said that the rumour most probably originated from Kolar where a person is said to have consumed spoilt milk and fallen ill.

Daijiworld also spoke to Dr Satyanarayana, manager (marketing) of DKMUL, who rubbished the rumours and said, "There is no chance of contamination. The milk we supply undergoes various processes in the dairy."

On the origin of the rumour he said, "I do not know how or where the rumour originated, but it is mostly among one particular community."

He further reiterated, "Just to make sure, we brought milk from various places and personally drank it. There was absolutely no contamination."

To put the rumours to rest, KMF has called a press meet in the afternoon.

Rumours through SMS / MMS play a dangerous role today. However adulteration and cheating is becoming more n more common. KMF must adopt standards and supply safe milk. Employees are not wearing uniform neither safety gear. More need to be done. This is a planned inspection What about TV9 inspection ?

    Bhaskar Poojari, Brahmavar,

    I fully agree with you!!

This is the tip of the ice berg. These dairies are involved in many corrupt practices and are looting customers for so many years.

Bangalore is so famous for adultarated milk as reported thru undercover operation of TV9!!

I have always suspected the authenticity of mils produced in coastal region, Karnataka, India, as many have either been adding water, milk poweder or any other substances to increase quantity of milk.

As the milk is sourced from thousands of small farmers there is a possibility of contamination, unhygienic practices that are harmful for final users.

This KMF, Nandini are well known for corrupt administration, eventhough they claim to produce mind blowing statistics in local newspapers. Example, Somshekar Reddy, former head Revanna and others.

A secret operation will reveal many illegal practices and loopholes in their day to day affairs.

There is less possibility of milk adulturation in Amul pattern or traditional co operative societies which collects the milk directly from farmers daily basis in two shifts and within short period it reaches the consumers as well as milk chilling plants or diaries. So there is no question of additives to delay the growth of bacteria.Since milk is high protein content so that bacteria developes within 2 to 3 hours so it spoils in normal condition. The cooperative milk societies/unions/ milk federaions have the responsibility of health care in state level. Do we see the milk coming from vendors of Coimbatore, Erode by Train which travels about 12 to 15 hours to reach our cities can stay unspoiled? Even though they remove the fat, it will not stay for such long time, in this case normally addion of chemicals like hydrogen peroxide the milk stay unspoiled.High concentration of hydrogen peroxide causes severe cell damage. So final solution that each house should have one milching cow so that our children can get fresh, unadultered protein food.

Guys it is not the milk but the water which is added to the milk is so very polluted and they have been hiding this matter for a long period now let them appoint a third party to sentence their product if it actually conforms to the national consumers code or standards, everyone condemns all the MNC's at the of the hat who follow all the national international codes and standards having ISO certification does not mean anything as they only ask for minimum paperwork which are usually complied with few alterations to meet the standard procedure Unlike MNC's which are mostly monitored by 3rd party agencies for the conformance's and compliance's and their Internal Lab which are fully equipped with state of the art measuring equipment's and competent personnel employed for their competency rather than their caste!!

After seeing all the comments from the Daiji readers there should be something they are adding to the milk as per the Brahmavar Guys because they saw it & for the sake of making money this type of companies can do anything and this type of adultration should be tested in the laboratories then we can come to one point it is safe for health that the common people cannot do & More over they might have hidden everything before the Daiji visit. Sudden raid to done without notice then the something can workout.

NOBODY IS A SAINT IN THIS LIVING WORLD.
EXPLANATIONS CAN BE MANY BUT TRUTH IS DIVINE.
THERE IS A CLEAR DIVIDE IN THE TASTE OF NANDINI MILK AND THE LIKES OF AL RAWABI MILK WE GET IN DUBAI.
NANDINI GUYS ARE EXPERT MILK PRODUCERS.
    DUBAI FELLOWS ARE ONLY BEGINNERS.
THEN WHAT IS THE REASON AL RAWABI TASTES MORE LIKE COW MILK THEN NANDINI AT HOME?
    TIME TO INTROSPECT AND INVESTIGATE.

Dear Bhaskar Poojary, I appreciate your comment but at the same time would like to remind to maintain professional ethics, don’t you think that for those two years you were quite because you did not wanted to lose the contract and also you did not mind informing any authorities about the issue but now the contract is with someone else so you are happy to raise the issue in this forum. For me the money which you and your family are enjoying now is also from the said illegal activity.

For information, whole milk or cow’s direct milk contains bacteria and viruses which are harmful if we drink directly, if noticed carefully cow’s milk get spoiled within say 4 hours if kept open. Packed or bottled milk is been pasteurized. Pasteurization (named after Louis Pasteur) is the process where the whole milk passes through various stages to reduce the fat molecules, killing bacteria as well reducing calories which we feel that 'water' has been added due to reduced taste in reality is safe to consume.

So consumers do not expect the packet milk to be the same cow’s milk directly from the cow shed or from the milk farmers.

This is utterly nonsense rumour .How can you mix powder into Milk ? 1.Powder costs more than milk itself
    2. To mix water water that too pure is just like making mineral water and then mex
3.In fact Milk that is packeted is best in that the Cholesterol rich (harmful for Heart ) Extra fat is removed from it by Dairies and then Ghee is made out of it and hence is good for health .As such once packed in packets it is open for the public to go to the nearest FDA lab and they can get it tested .

People and the Government must take a serious note of these continued rumors God forbid, one day these false rumours may create more dangerous disasters such as communal riots etc. We have to findout who is spreading such rumours and they should be funished harshly.

Mr. Bhaskar Poojary, your comment is an eye opener.

You have rightly suggested to capture the scenes of milk process taking place in the dairy plants. Seeing is believing and it would be of everyone's interest because milk is an wholesome food and is being consumed at every household. Adulteration is not only in milk, rather every other food products we eat are polluted in someway. All wants to make easy money but it shouldn't be at the cost of one's life.

Nandini should come out with clarification supported by solid justification to reestablish the confidence in the its milk consumers.
