Bhatkal, Aug 24: A person identified as Maulana Mohammed Ismail Ruknaddin drowned at the Bhatkal Jali beach at 5.30 pm on August 23. He was the Imaam of Juma Masjid Magdumiya and also a teacher at Jamia Madrasa.
Around 20 friends had gone to relax at the beach. It is alleged that while they went for a swim, this tragic incident occurred. The body of the victim is not yet recovered.
It is noticed that the beaches at Bhatkal and Murudeshwar do not have any coastal security facilities.
At 7 pm in the evening, Bhatkal DYSP M Naryan, CPI Shiv Prakash , and police inspector teams arrived at the spot. It was reported that the coastal security board was not bought to the beach.
Hundreds of locals rushed to the spot and launched a massive search for the boy. A local boat was brought in for the search operation.
A case has been registered at the town police station.

Maulana Mohammed Ismail Ruknaddin’s body was found after 24 hours of search at around 5pm in the same location where he drowned.
The local boys continued searching for the body of the Imaam. But finally it was found by a fishermen’s boat who were on their way back to shore. The corpse was later taken to the Bhatkal government hospital for post mortem.
A huge crowd gathered at the Bhatkal Jali beach where local boys were searching far and near for the missing body.
Later at night after the Isha prayer, Maulana's Namaz e Janaza (final prayer) was offered at Masjid e Hilaal Magdum colony. The funeral was held at Magdum Colony Qabrastan.
Today after Isha, a condolence prayer meet for Maulana Ismail will be held at Al Hilaal Masjid Magdum colony.
