Mangalore: Bishop Inaugurates Renovated Altar at Cordel Church

Mangalore, Aug 31: Bishop Dr Aloysius Paul D'Souza inaugurated the newly renovated altar of Holy Cross Church, Cordel, Kulshekar here on Friday August 31.

Addressing the gathering after the inauguration, the bishop thanked the donors and said that all those who have donated towards the cause of the Church have done commendable work.

"Their (donors') action will not only strengthen their faith but also earn them divine blessings," he said, adding that their contribution was like a 'loan' which god would repay with rich rewards.

Sushil Noronha, Roy Castelino and the donors were honoured on the occasion.

The bishop also inaugurated the pulpit and the lectern.

Cordel parish committee vice-president Praveen Patrao welcomed the gathering while parish priest Fr Valerian Pinto proposed the vote of thanks.

    Congratulations to Fr. Vally and the Cordel-gars for the new altar in the Sanctuary. May this alter where the Holy Eucharist is celebrated may draw people closer the the Eucharistic Lord. Cordel is being transformed under the leadership Fr. Valerian Pinto. May God bless him and grant him good health to carry on his priestly ministry.

    i total agree with you. I dont know why our priests dont keep the foot wear our when the insist and notices are out to keep the footwear out and its very good practice and advice but the priests wear their footwear not only in the church but on the Alter too! some of our Hindu temples we are to leave the footwear far away. i feel our priest must put into practice what they insist and give example.

    Altar has marble flooring i think thats the renovation but why are the people n presits wearing shoes for heavens sake ita a altar. felicitaion or otherwise priests or laity kindly keep footwear out of the altar atleast.

    Congratulations on the renovation of the Altar! I would have liked to see a clear picture of the RENOVATED ALTAR without the clergy and lay people. It is great that the donors have sacrificed their resources, thanks to them. But it looks like the organizers are focused on the people who are sitting on the altar and not the Holy Sacrament that is on the Altar. Fully agree with Oswald's comments...

    The stage function or felicitation could have been kept outside the church or in the portico or in the church hall and not on the sanctuary. Let us keep up the sanctity of the place always. It is not only here but in most of the churches //sanctuaries too such events take place. Let our sanctuaries be confined to only for Holy Mass, Adoration, Sermons, Retreat, Benediction, Christening and other religioius ceremonies. I have also seen that our altars, sanctuaries, confessional box, cemetries, church bells have been given for cinema shooting. Let us value our place of worship and let our sanctuaries be confined to only for the above said religious ceremonies.
