Mangalore: Redesign Fishing Dock for Convenience of Fishermen - Poojary

Mangalore, Sep 5: Minister for ports and muzrai, Kota Srinivas Poojary directed his department officials to redesign the fishing dock in 15 days following the demands of the fishermen to increase the height of the fishing dock at Old Port on Tuesday September 4.

Addressing a meeting, he said that union government has agreed to raise the height of the dock to three meters from the current 2.5 metres. The fishermen demanded for the rise in height for the convenience of anchoring boats and to unload fish from the boats.

The minister said that dredging work at estuary area will begin soon. He assured to take up the issues of New Mangalore Port authorities restriction on fishermen venturing near the port in emergency situations.

N Yogish Bhat, Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker, Nitin Kumar, State Fisheries Development Corporation chief, among many others were present.

    Poojary now on the right track to improve the small ports around Kota/Kundapura/gangolli.
    Hope it materialises, before BJP's term comes to an end shortly.
    Please hurry with this work and people will like you during the next election.
    Dredging only once will not help. It should be done often.
    Higher fees should be collected from those who use the Port facilities.
