Mangalore, Sep 11: "The private hospitals are providing good healthcare to patients, but the poor are being exploited in various ways. To prevent this, the district administration should ensure that good service and facilities are provided in government hospitals too," said Aravind Limbavali.

He was addressing the progress review meeting of the district health and family welfare department at the deputy commissioner's office here on Tuesday September 10.

Limbavali sought a report on the measures taken by the Mangalore City Corporation to curb diseases like malaria, dengue, rat fever and H1N1.

"Even before the diseases begin to spread, the authorities should take steps to create awareness among the people," Limbavali said, adding that the administration should not give any scope for people to panic.

"Though more number of Malaria cases were registered this year especially in Mangalore, appropriate measures have been taken and the number has dropped in the last two months," informed health officer Arun.

"Eleven remote and far-flung villages in Beltangady have been identified as Naxal-affected. National Rural Health Mission (NHRM) aims to provide healthcare to the people of these villages, and hence the government should release a Naxal package," said district health officer Dr O Srirangappa.

In this regard, DC Dr N Channappa Gowda urged the setting up of the first health centre in Beltangady's Yelaneeru region.

Legislative assembly deputy speaker Yogish Bhat, MLC Monappa Bhandary, ZP CEO Dr K N Vijayprakash, MCC commissioner Harish Kumar and others were present.
