Bangalore: Yeddyurappa's Sunday Show: Will BJP Government Fall?

Bangalore, Dec 8 (IANS): The BJP is gearing up for the possible fall of its government in Karnataka with its former leader B.S. Yeddyurappa launching his own party Sunday.

The 69-year-old ex-chief minister quit the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Nov 30 to form and lead the Karnataka Janata Party (KJP).

Yeddyurappa was upset at not being made BJP chief of the Karnataka unit after he was forced to give up the chief minister's post in July last year over mining bribery charges. He will take over as KJP president Dec 9 at a rally in Haveri, around 350 km from here.

Yeddyurappa has been claiming that between 400,000 and 500,000 people will attend the rally. However the focus is more on the number of BJP ministers and legislators who will attend the rally, defying repeated threats by the leadership that they will be expelled.

"We are ready to sacrifice our government to maintain discipline and ministers and legislators attending the rally have no place in the party," state BJP chief K.S. Eshwarappa said.

Yeddyurappa claims the support of around 12 ministers in the 34-member Jagadish Shettar cabinet and about 40 other legislators - assembly and council members. The BJP has 119 members in the 225-member assembly and 44 in the 75-member council.

Around nine legislators, five assembly and four legislative council members and three Lok Sabha members of the BJP have so far openly associated themselves with the former party leader. One Lok Sabha member, B.Y. Raghavendra, is Yeddyurappa's son.

The BJP has not acted against them. The party has only taken the stand that it will expel the ministers and legislators if they share the dais with Yeddyurappa Sunday. Regarding parliament members, the party's state unit will ask the central leadership to decide on the action.

Yeddyurappa and his supporters are playing a sort of hide-and-seek game with the BJP. They plan to host a breakfast meeting in Haveri in which ministers, legislators and parliament members loyal to the former chief minister can take part. The BJP is planning to prevent this play with Eshwarappa hinting action against those attending the breakfast or tea parties in Haveri.

Shettar, Eshwarappa and H.N. Ananth Kumar, the BJP general secretary and Bangalore South MP, with some other state party leaders late Friday met BJP chief Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi to draw up a plan to counter Yeddyurappa.

The former chief minister and his new party are not expected to gain significantly in the assembly polls due in May but can spoil chances of the BJP retaining power in Karnataka after it won for the first time in the state in May 2008.

The BJP is banking on the fact that party leaders such as Uma Bharati in Madhya Pradesh and Kalyan Singh in Uttar Pradesh were dumped by people once they left the party.

This and the failure of regional outfits floated by prominent Karnataka leaders such as former chief ministers Ramakrishna Hegde, D. Devraj Urs and S. Bangarappa are giving some hope to BJP that Yeddyurappa too will not succeed.

However, the BJP has a difficult task since it has to put in place a plan to minimise the damage that the former party leader can inflict on.

Since its efforts to take off in the three other southern states -- Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala -- remains grounded, the BJP had come to believe that Karnataka would be its launch pad to rule south India and remove the tag of being a north Indian party.

But as its first stint in power nears end, the party finds itself battling the possibility of Karnataka too slipping away from its hold.

For long, Karanataka has been at the losing end mainly due to Congress or JD that was in power. BJP was actually filling the lacunae left by the Congress whose lies fell bare with emergence of internet world. However, if you have a look around and prevailing coalition politics at the center, Karnataka needs a strong regional party for the Kannadigas. Regional parties rule the roost at the center and Karnataka too should form one if their voice are to be heard and if all the hard earned tax paid by the Kannadigas is to reach Karnataka.

Dear friends, BJPs imminent demise in the State is now a matter of time and it was anticipated from the time BSY cobbled together a fragile majority wooving every possible aspirant of power from almost all parties under his infamous "Operation Kamala" A house built on sand cannot last too long and it is bound to collapse. It is now time to recall the emergence of Rama Sene, Bhajrang Dal and half a dozen other communal outfits and their moral policing acts particularly in the city of Mangalore in the otherwise peaceful State. BJP has also been successful in brainwashing the younger generation of the majority Hindu community in the name of religion and in this process, they have successfully wooed the lower caste Hindus like Billavas, SC/STs,into their cadre as they are largely unaware of/ignorant about the "Balambe/Polambe" era of upper castes landlords which their ancestors suffered in the hands of the then mighty and powerful landlords. One must not forget the history that it was the congress which liberated them from virtual slavery by introducing the land reforms bill in the early seventies. It is this liberation which brought about prosparity to all the lower caste and minorities in the State. BJP through its cadres managed to instigate lower castes in the name of religion for the uletrior benefit of votes. The larger plan of BJP Nationwide is to unite various factions of Hindus in the name of religion wth the sole objective of grabbing the power and then bring back the lost glory of upper castes through large scale corruption.

Having said that congress is not a lesser evil either. Its old guard is fully tainted with corruption scams during their tenure in power and is not acceptable for the electorate, its only a daring complete overhaul of its cadre will be able to present an acceptable alternative to people of Karnataka. Otherwise it will be a total sajjige bajil or mushakkal (mixture) in the next assembly

Some people may argue that BJP has grass root level organization, but the fact at present in india is that for the people who makes the govt. is not a matter , they started to good candidate who will work more for his constituency than making big money. For example UP also had the grass root level organization structure , but once caste politics entered there BJP came down to 3rd place in 3 continues elections. All the grass is eaten by grass hopes with money. People will not vote for grass root, they will vote for candidates who will do the work in the grass root level. Jai people of karnataka. Show what you can do for your own future. Vote with your consciousness not by listening to the speeches by the people. You have the right of Information Act. to get any information. Get the information of your MLA's , How they used their alloted money in their constituency.

Nothing will happen. Because both BJP and KJP are not in a position to form alternative Government in Karnataka nor they want election now. Even Congress too, not in a mood to call for Election since they just introduced FDI in Central Government will diffidently upset Farmers community in Karnataka. I think we have to press for President Rule, wherever any State fails to have Government to be formed by any Political Party for rest of the period within five years. Reason is simple we should not have second election in five years time.

Shri. B.S. Yeddyurappa, we are happy that you have departed from your earlier communal agenda therefore you will have wider acceptance.
However, at this juncture, falling of Govt. may not be good for our economy.
Let the Govt. survive to its full term, just ensure that they are not departing from people friendly and growth oriented policies. People want stability, peace, happiness and growth.

Political leaders of Karnataka state are pessimistic about KJP by showing example of Bangarappa/Hegde/Urs for their own satisfaction/logic and party interest....But the situation and circumstances in all above cases were not same as BSY's.On the other hand when Bangarappa distanced from his mother party, Congress lost and when in, Congress captured the power.(more than one occasion). Now question is what is special in BSy's case, one may ask!My answer are,1)There were no such quantum of endorsements of Ministers/MLAs/MPs/MLCs in first instance for above mentioned leaders.2)BSY is unquestionable community leader(LINGYATHS)who represents 18% of vote banks.3) Apart from that he has leadership qualities which is unique and can romp in other communities like Daliths/Muslims/OBCs.(During his regime a record number of minority/OBC/Dalith welfare schemes were implemented with budget sanctions(I did mention earlier when he was BJP C.M of Karnataka)All these factors makes BSY more powerful than other leaders who can dump BJP if not able to gain power on his own.

Coming to GOVT Fall or not is irrelevant issue because BSY don't want it but some are how BJP need that to say voters 'see we sacrificed govt for the indiscipline and Lingayath leader, BSY ditched Lingayath leader Shettar! Some are how plan also may not work here as community is very much sympathy with BSY. Anyhow, BJP is totally confused and looks like boat with out captain under bad weather.
