Kundapur, Dec 9: A 55-year-old woman was robbed of her valuables by a gang posing as policemen here on Saturday December 8.

The victim has been identified as Bacchi Mogaveera, resident of LIC Road here. The incident took place when she was going to the bank.

One among the thieves approached her stating that police personnel who had come from Bangalore were enquiring about her. He also asked the address of a teacher by name Sharadha. When she replied that she does not know any teacher by that name, he said that he had come to Kundapur for an enquiry.

He warned her about several incidents of thefts and asked her not to wear gold ornaments while traveling or going out. To convince her, he insisted that another man (his accomplice) remove his chain, which he wrapped in a paper and handed over to him.

In the same manner the victim, who believed him to be a real policeman, also handed over her gold chain weighing 2.5 sovereign which he then wrapped in a paper and handed over to her.

Later, on reaching home, she found that the paper packet contained mud instead of her chain. It was then that she realized that she had been duped.

Bacchi immediately informed the police. Crime inspector Revathi and circle inspector Manjunath Kauri rushed to the spot to investigate.

However, there was no clue of the thieves. Some persons were taken into custody on suspicion and were later released. Investigations are on.

A case has been registered in the Kundapur police station.

    Guys be alert.

Sometimes, thugs would approach you with fake ID, posing them as police personnel. In such case, we immediately need to contact the nearest police station and ensure such name as police personnel is in the payroll.
