Mangalore: District Police Test Athletic Skills at Three-day Sports Meet

Mangalore, Dec 13: Deputy commissioner N Prakash inaugurated the annual police sports meet at district armed police reserve grounds here on Thursday December 12.

N Prakash inaugurated the meet by letting a pigeon into the air.

Addressing the gathering, DC N Prakash said that it is necessary to maintain a healthy body for a healthy mind and more importantly, it is essential for police. He asked them to actively participate in the sports events and wished them good luck.

Manish Karbikar, police commissioner, M Muthuraya, DCP law and order, Dharmaiah, DCP crime, SP Abhishek Goel shared the dais.

Six teams - district armed reserve and city armed reserve police; Mangalore North, Mangalore South, Mangalore Central, Putttur Sub-divison, Women Police are part of the three-day sports event.

The sports meet will include events like 100, 200, 400, 800, 1500 metres race, 4x100 metres relay, javelin throw, shot put, high jump, discus throw, long jump, triple jump, Kabbadi, cricket, volleyball, tug-of-war, shooting and slow motorcycle race. The events will be held in categories like SI, CPI, ACP and so on.

More than 150 participants will be part of the sports meet. Prior to the inauguration of the meet, a march past was held.

As part of the event, on Saturday December 15, a marathon will be held from Pumpwell to Police Grounds at 7 am.

The valedictory ceremony will be held on Saturday December 15 at 4 pm where IGP Pratap Reddy will be the chief guest.

Subhash Chandra, ACP; Jagannath, ACP south; Para Shetty, DCP CAR; Kavitha BJ, ACP central; Ravi S, ACP north among others were present.
