Mangalore, Dec 15: Former CM and JD(S) state president H D Kumarswamy on Saturday December 15 launched a tirade against the two national parties BJP and Congress and said that both had been playing divisive politics among communities for their own political gains.
"Together they ruled the state for about 25 years and created chaos-like situation in the state. Hence there is need for supporting JD(S) this time," he said.
He was addressing the gathering at the JD(S) district minority Christian cell conference held at Bishop Jathanna Hall here on Saturday December 15.
He recalled the 1983 political development wherein for the first time the state had witnessed a non-Congress government. "Those days the stature of Karnataka was high, but now it has declined," he lamented.
In a mood to attack Congress, Kumaraswamy in his address said, "Congress which blames JD(S) of bringing BJP to power in the state had conspired to belittle JD(S) when we were their coalition partner. Hence the JD(S) supported BJP to form the coalition government."
He also said that a minority Christian commission to help underprivileged Christians in the state will be formed and that he has already held discussions in this regard with the Bangalore Archbishop.
"As the minority commission in the state has always been headed by Muslim leaders, a separate minority Christian commission will be formed in order to help underprivileged Christian families. The same has been discussed with the Archbishop in Bangalore," he said.
The former CM also said that his party will consider choosing a suitable candidate from the Christian community for the upcoming assembly elections.
Kumaraswamy also called upon the people to stop misuse of power by BJP in the state.
"Development has taken a backseat because of the two national parties. I did not become CM with people's votes, but because of a political development. However, in my 20 months as CM, the state witnessed good development," he said.
Criticizing the arrest of TV journalist Naveen Soorinje, HDK said that the state government, police department and judicial system were behind this act.
Kumaraswamy's birthday was also celebrated on the occasion by cutting a cake.
Later speaking to reporters on the sidelines, HDK said that KJP is a party with no aim. "KJP was formed by Yeddyurappa to protect himself from legal consequences. ‘The welfare state’ which BSY promises now - why was it not done when he was the CM?" HDK questioned.
HDK though he did not name any parties, said ‘a national party’ which is not BJP, has joined hands with KJP.
"The newly-formed KJP is supported by a national party which misused CBI," he said.
On a few JD(S) leaders joining KJP, he said that they were aspirants of assembly tickets, when they were disappointed they moved on. Hence they caused no damage to JD(S), HDK said.
Convener of state JD(S) NRI cell Elias Sanctis welcomed the gathering while district president of Christian minority cell Pramod Pinto proposed the vote of thanks.
Leaders Amarnath Shetty, Nagaraj Shetty, Sadananda Shetty, M B Sadashiva, Sushil Noronha, Ashwin Pereira, Madhu Bangarappa, Zameer Ahmed, Judith Mascarenhas, Hyder Parthipady among others were present.
