Mangalore, Jan 15: In a move that brought some embarassment to the district Congress, the Mangalore City Corporation on Tuesday January 15 tore down the party's buntings and banners in the city that were put up as part of the Youth Congress rally held on the same day.

The propoganga materials were removed as they violated the ban on plastic.

Speaking to Daijiworld, MCC inspector Praveen said that the action was taken on the orders of MCC commissioner Dr Harish Kumar.

The MCC officials cleared Congress buntings, banners and decorative items from Urwa to Hampankatta. The same will be done in the rest of the city on Wednesday January 16, Praveen said.

When asked if the district Congress had not obtained prior approval of the MCC, he replied in the negative. "Even if they had applied for permission, we would not have allowed," he added.

He further said that apart from violating the ban on plastic, the buntings caused nuisance to commuters and increased risk of accidents.

He said that though several people called up opposing the MCC's action, no one approached the officials in person.

It is time to ban corrupt politicians..They should have used the politicians, who are posing the picture to remove the plastic banners in front of public. Shame on them to pollute the environment. These politicans are good for making money & going abroad. But dont have any sense to learn how to keep the city clean. Throw them to garbage!!

MCC has done a good job. It is good that we are free from all type of plastic flags of all colors. The assembly elections are in another three months and people will stop using plastics for campaign.I Hope this is applicable for all type of samajotsava and Rally’s.

If MCC can do this as part of plastic ban n the city, why traffic police can not take action against two wheelers who do not wear helmets during political rallies in the city which is against rules.

I can see other plastics banners for advertisement everywhere on the road side. Something is fishy about it. MCC Commissioner should have done it before all that advertisement banners first. Now their to create fight or enemity they have started with it.

Hon. High Court of Karnataka has stayed the ban on plastic imposed by the District Administration today! Plastics of thickness below 40 microns only would be banned! Guess the M.C.C still doesnt have any clues about the order

MCC is very keen to invoke plastic ban in Mangalore...But the plastic materials came from which origin?Mangalore? As far is law concerned it is OK it will take it's own course but timing and opportunity might be wrong.Would MCC will take same interest when others are violating MCC plastic ban?A million dollar question.
